The winter chill didn’t detract from the sizzling action which unfolded. A fantastic performance by the Warriors who with injury after injury continue to find a way to lift when the occasion befits. Fawkner went ahead early courtesy of a dubious penalty . The Warriors kept pushing however and didn’t dissipate it’s efforts all half. Just before half time Robbie Zadworny found himself on the end of a looping ball in the box and his hang time allowed him to clinically finish the ball past the Fawkner keeper. Going in at half time with lots to play for the Warriors came out in the 2nd half with intent and pressed for the opener. Their pressure yielded the result they were looking for, Robbie Zadworny, received a wide ball and darted past three on comers to unleash from 25 metres to rocket the ball past the hapless keeper and send the fans into raptures of delight. However a few minutes later the concentration in the defence lapsed momentarily and allowed Fawkner to peg back a cheap goal to level the scores. In the dying minutes North Geelong had a clear handball in the box disallowed and a cross bar hit which only by some freak of physics didn’t go in. Regardless an effort the injury plagued Warriors can be proud of. Their challenges don’t get any easier though as they now face a resurgent Clifton Hill, looking to remain in the league. It will definitely be a test of their resolve to get over the top of them.

Under 21s remain on top of the ladder with a game in hand to come on 7th of September vs Western Suburbs. The youthful Warriors took Fawkner apart in what looked like clinical fashion, at least from the sidelines. The youngsters ran all through the 90 mns and never looked like buckling at any point. Every build up was patient and well put together. You get the sense that these boys are only just beginning as they have a burning passion to play for each other and the squad is maturing well together.
