At the recent Under 21 trials for North Geelong over 40 young men were involved in pre season selection trials where players from Wodonga, Ballarat and Mt Gambier as well as our local Geelong Region talents provided selectors as tough choice. 25 young men were selected as the train on squad to have a pre season with the Warriors who are fielding an Under 21 side in the upcoming 2010 State League Div 1 Season. Under 21s coaches Ante Skoko and Ante Sarcevic now have the tough choice to make to bring the list down to a manageable level, however the lads involved can all be proud of themselves as their approach to the sessions has been fantastic.
Seniors coaches Vinko Buljubasic and John Hrkac are testing out some options also, with players from Premier League and last season’s Div 1 clubs coming to trial with North Geelong for a spot in what promises to be a very tight competition. Looking at the teams involved there isn’t one club you could say are definite favourites. The majority of 2009’s squad remains at North Geelong with the only notable exclusion being Grgo Saric. If the pre season goes well without injury or loss of players then North Geelong will be looking at a very solid year and you never know if the performances are like last year, with a bit of luck Premier league may not be that far away. In the meantime we look forward to the challenges the Go For Your Life Cup will present, commencing on the 6th of Feb at Corio’s home ground Hume Reserve, with the first hitout against Geelong .
