2009 Presentation Night Awards
A fantastic night to cap off a brilliant season.
Over 200 people came along to celebrate a very successful year for the North Geelong Warriors
A fitting occasion for the Seniors and Under 15 teams who took out their respective competitions. The night was in the hands of club legend John Didulica who did a great job in the MC role. Club president Joe Zilic thanked everyone for their tremendous effort and support from sponsors to volunteers, committee, families and of course the players and coaches.
In a tight contest between 3 players, the Steve Vuckovic best and fairest award went to the club veteran Adrian Cervinski who belied his years to play in a midfield role and produce some of the best football we’ve seen, his performances have been so consistent that he also took out the Rob Cosic – Player’s Player of the year also, as voted by his peers. Closely followed by Grgo Saric and Daniel Zilic. All three made comment of how they enjoyed playing with this group of players, some who have only just begun their careers.
The golden boot went to young up and coming talent Matthew Demo who also scored on debut for Melbourne Victory against Adelaide United on Friday night.
In a fitting result, crowd favourite Robert Zadworny in his first season at North Geelong took out the fan’s favourite award. The Award has been resurrected to acknowldge the supporters belief onwho they beleive deserves the award based on team spirit and endedavour towards success. Zadowrny acknowledges the crowd on every goal he scored this year, this as well as his hard working efforts has endered him to the North Geelong faithful for what we hope is many years to come. Well Done Robbie.
The team made a huge statement on their commitment to the club by producing the highest bid for a framed signed player’s top. Roger Savi the clubs specialist goalkeeper coach, took a top after the last home game and got everyone to sign it. Unbeknown to the club he went and got it framed and donated it back to the club to use as an auction item as a fundraiser. Well it was a fantastic result with team mates showing unity to outbid everyone at $2400. The players commented later saying that the club means a lot to them and they wanted the memorabilia to stay at the club as a sign of how they enjoyed being a part of it’s history.
The Under 15s captain Seth Harvey summed it up beautifully by thanking parents who travel far and wide to get their kids to the games and to training.
This fits in perfectly with what the North Geelong Warriors are creating at Elcho Park. They want their youth product to be the best going around and to give Geelong region’s children every opportunity to play in the best possible league for the region. We don’t necessarily want the most players playing for us, we want to be known for producing or displaying the best players in the region.
In 2010 will see North Geelong field an Under 16 Superleague and Under 21 Division 1 State League side. This is the perfect opportunity for the youth of the greater Geelong region to get a foot in the door at a club who can showcase the their talent. Parents who previously went to Melb to give their kids a chance at playing in higher leagues don’t need to do that anymore.
We invite all children to come along and join in the game, for those between the ages of 15 and 21 who want to play a higher level can come along in November and December (dates to be released shortly) for some familiarisation trials, a chance to see if you like what we have to offer. The youth and their parents can come along and see our club, meet the committee, coaches and other players before they break for Christmas and resume for the intensive pre-season campaign in early Jan.
The club is also looking for players to field in it’s women’s team as well as a Women’s coach, those who are interested are encouraged to contact the club on 0424 145 552.
