Round 5: North Geelong (3) v Keilor Park (0)

With the beautiful sunshine basking Elcho Park and showing off the best playing surface going around, the Warriors took the field against Keilor Park.

From the start of the match the Warriors played good solid team football.  The passing game was working well and despite a couple of minor chances to Keilor the Warriors definitely had the lion share of the possession.

Some good lead up play from Trupkovic, Cervinski and Zadworny found Demo in space and his first touch was good however as he tried to place his shot just over the advancing keeper he narrowly lofted too high and the chance went begging.  Others to come close were Zadworny who dragged his shot wide of the post and Cervinski who had his shot saved at the near post by the keeper.  The ascendancy was there and with the score at 0 – 0 at half time there was plenty to play for.

The second half continued in much the same vein.  Good lead up play good passing combined with new crowd favourite Robert Zadworny and his unrelenting running rewarded the Warriors with the opening goal.  Trupkovic and Cervinski combined to thread to the running Zadworny who shimmied past his oncoming defenders to slot the ball home.

The crowd has warmed to the new signing and he is enjoying it.  The second goal came as a result of persistence.  Keilor’s defence was stretched and a mistake allowed Chris Siketa to have a go at goal only for the ball to come back off the post and his quick reaction saw him nod the ball over the line and give the Warriors a 2 – 0 lead.

Keilor tried stepping it up to the boys in Red White and Blue and gave them a couple of scares, but the defence and keeper were on hand and kept the clean sheet for the first time this year.

Keilor’s advancement only opened them up further and the mood the Warriors were in could have seen a whitewash occur.  As the half wore on, Robert Zadworny was lurking to give the Keilor boys more grief and did so again.  This time the running of left winger Zel Vranjic who was giving his opponent headaches all day, saw him get passed again and got the ball to the hotspot, pressure form Zadworny saw him finish in the six yard box and run to his adoring fans to let them know of his appreciation.

With the score at 3 – 0 the Warriors can go into the upcoming match against Westgate (at home)  full of confidence. A great team effort.
