Junior Warrior Newsletter April 18th 2008

Posted: Friday, April 18th, 2008. Categories: Juniors.

Dear Parents/Guardians. As the soccer season looms, we write to you informing you finally on the format of play for Season 2008.

The off season has been full of dramas and situations which we have had little or no control over. The GRFA have treated clubs poorly, leaving us with little information and no structure to work with (They even scrapped Under 7 Soccer in Geelong).  We as a junior club have joined forces with Bell Park, Geelong Rangers, Geelong SC and Kardinia International College to form our own ‘Northern Hub’ which will allow us to play our kids at U6/U7/U8/U9 & U10 against each other under the new FFA/FFV endorsed format of Small Sided Games (SSG’s) on Sundays (9am -12pm) commencing on the 27th of April.  What this means is that Rooball as we used to know it does not exist and the future direction of junior football in Australia up to and including Under 12’s will be with the SSG format.  Attached to this newsletter is a parent summary of Small Sided Games which we urge you to read, understand and ask questions about.

The structure of play will be as follows:

  • Under 6’s will play 4 v 4 no goalkeeper
  • Under 7s and Under 8’s will play 5 v 5 with no goalkeeper.
  • Under 9’s 7 v 7 including a goal keeper.
  • Under 10’s 8 v 8 including a goal keeper.

Parent Information session – Small Sided Games

This Sunday the 20th of April, the FFV in conjunction with The Northern Hub will hold an information session/demonstration for all parents, coaches and club representatives. The location of this session is:

Geelong Rangers SC,Myers Reserve, Bell Post Hill. Time: 10am – 12pm.  Please make an effort to come along and see for yourself what is in store for you kids for this season and beyond.

Under 10’s and Under 11’s will from now on, all train together each Tuesday and Friday from 5pm. The coaches will be Eddie Kovacev (0433046461) and Ivo Roso. A meeting of all Under 10 and Under 11 parents will take place directly after training on Tuesday the 22nd of April to explain the new structure for these teams, which will start as of the 26th of April.

Basically the new structure will be:

·         All top age Under 11’s will be eligible to play each Saturday (Based on their training attendance.)

·         An additional three (minimum) Under 10 players on a rotational basis will be added to the above squad each week to play on Saturday’s in the Under 11 competition.

·         ALL under 10’s, if they wish to be considered, can nominate themselves to be part of this top up rotation, or they may wish just to play Sunday’s only.

·         Under 10’s will compete against Bell Park, Rangers, Geelong and Kardinia on Sundays.(SSG format)

·         Under 10’s playing as rotational top up players on Saturday, may also if needed ‘double up’ and play on Sundays.

·         Attendance at both training days is compulsory before you are eligible to be considered to be part of the rotation for the week you are rostered. No training, you cannot be considered.

·         The Coach will choose the rotation players and create the necessary roster of which you will be notified in advance.

·         This is the fairest and most equitable system for all players.

Registrations:

Please remember to register your child before the season starts. If your child is not registered they will not be allowed to play. It is as simple as that. Parents/Guardians please note:

Please advise your coach if your child cannot attend training or match day.
You must be in attendance while your child is at training.
Uphold the conditions that you have signed in your Player/Parent code of conduct.

The North Geelong junior program has a come along way in such a short space of time. We are now almost nudging 100 juniors playing at our club. Trying to resource, coach and administer them all is a very challenging task undertaken by a few, who give up their priceless time to ensure that all our kids have the opportunity to play. We as a committee hold the view that we put what’s best for the children first and continue to try and develop our junior program so it can be the envy of the entire region. Please support us in our endeavours.  If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact any one of our committee members. Look forward to seeing you all. Bring on the season!
